Dernford Nook Activities
Self-run Activities at the Dernford Nook campsite
- Fire Lighting - lighting fires in the woods, cooking in the embers or roasting over coals
- Wide Games - plenty of space, plenty of cover, bring your best games
- Orienteering - map reading, grid references, bearings for nine clip points within the site
- Pedal Karts - pedal power on four wheels on our pedal kart track in the woods
- Slip-n-slide - 15m of slippery vinyl watered by hand-fed sprinklers as you slide down and into the lake
Activities requiring a permitted leader
- Archery (needs permitted leader*)
- 8 recurve 16lb bows
- 50 arrows
- 4 foam bosses
- shooting range
- Tomahawk throwing (needs experienced leader*)
- 12 throwing angels
- 3 norse hawk throwing tomahawks
- 3 target rounds
- throwing range (shared with archery)
- Raft building (needs permitted leader*)
- 8 big barrels [IMG - scouts on Dernmere]
- 20 small barrels, containers etc
- 22 pioneering poles
- 28 bouyancy aids, 12 required helmets, some wetsuits
- Canoe and Kayaking (needs permitted leader*)
- 33 scout kayaks
- 10 assorted others: canoes, pro and race kayaks
- 25 bouyancy aids, 12 optional helmets, some wetsuits
- Pioneering
- 22 pioneering poles
- 4 large barrels with holes in to make Fred Flintstone's car
- (no suitable rope currently)

- Fourteen different camping pitches
- Toilet block four unisex cubicles, one accessible, sinks
- Outside washing up sinks (coming soon: warm water)
- Kitchen block with hobs, sinks (coming soon: solar heated water), worksurfaces and some utensils / equipment
- Welcome cabin for signing-in and signing-out
- Four small fire pits, three larger ones
- Two lakes
- Central flagpole
- Campfire circle
- Canoes, kayaks, paddles, bouyancy aids
- Rafting barrels and poles, helmets
- Archery bosses; bows and arrows can be brought on site
- Air rifles might be able to be brought on site
